Firstly this is my first experience of blogging so I apologise for the basic state of my page. As I learn how to do stuff here it will get better.
So, I’m known as Tray, I’m 42 years old and female. I live in a little town in Derbyshire, which is in England. I’m married with a beautiful daughter who is 20 and at university. I love my 2 dogs, Lolly & Jude, who are springer spaniels X border collies. I work with women & children fleeing from domestic violence and families at risk of becoming homeless. I love my job!
I decided to write a blog about my quest to become healthier, which has led to me deciding to have bariatric surgery in the form of a gastric (lap) band. I have type 2 diabetes because of my dreadful diet, and afew months ago I was told by my doctor that my blood sugar was so out of control that I was heading for a heart attack, stroke or the loss of a limb. His exact words were
If you don’t take drastic action soon you will have a life changing event that your bad choices will have caused.
I’ve dieted on & off all my life, I’ve tried every diet out there. I was always quite successful too, but I’d always go back to my bad choices and huge portions. I’d put all the weight back on and then gain another stone. At that doctors appointment I was at my heaviest – 15 stone and 2 pounds, or 212 pounds. At 5ft 2, or 157cm tall, this made me seriously obese. I carry most of my weight around my belly and boobs too, which is really bad for your heart.
I realised I had to do something so I had a consultation with a private clinic, who recommended the band. I decided it was absolutely the right choice for me, so I booked & paid for it and here we are, the day before my surgery.
The last few weeks haven’t been easy. My blood sugar was so high they nearly had to postpone the surgery! I managed to get it just under the threshold for surgery by following a really strict diet for 3 weeks – 3 tiny meals a day and no snacks. Thankfully it was enough! Then this past 7 days I’ve been on the pre op liquid diet. 3 bottles of ready made slim fast shakes and a potion of natural yoghurt. Omg hungry?! Hell yes! Totally worth it though.
I’m off to play with this website to learn how to add some pics and stuff.
